Depression is a terrible thing when we allow it to dwell in our minds without dealing rapidly with it. Depression is the cause of so many psychological ailments that we know today; so much so that a good number of them were mistaken for each other at one time not too long ago. Thankfully, researcher Francois Baillarger has been able to distinguish bipolar disorder from schizophrenia and other known mental disorders during the era. At least now we know what we are dealing with when we attempt to treat bipolar disorder. We are fortunate to live in the times that we do. Back in the day, the 60s to be precise, the government would institutionalize anyone who has been showing the symptoms of the disease, bipolar disorder, but that was as far as it went. They were never proffered much help further by the government because people would not accept manic-depression as nothing but a mental illness. At least today we know that to be a faulty supposition, and we care better for our emotionally challenged. One cannot say for certain that such and such are the cures for a deep mental unease like bipolar disorder; one can only allude to medication, a treatment. Some treatments are known to suppress the condition such that you might not experience the symptoms for months or years. You might call it a cure if you like, but you must know that you cannot stop taking the medication at any time otherwise you would relapse. The depressed state of bipolar disorder is not a mild one, but one of a major depression. In case you are not aware, the psychosomatic turmoil can and often does impair your ability to function in social situations and at work in a very dramatic fashion. Want to know more? You are more than likely going to have feelings of despair, hopelessness, worthlessness, quite an almost endless list. And to top it off, you then start getting thoughts of committing suicide. If for nothing else, you ought to put a stop to it before it gets to that, wouldn’t you say?
